The Three-Week System Reset
My words for 2024 are simple, soft, and steady.
Looking at the state of the world and feeling the heaviness shared with me by peers, this year has been anything but.
Nothing happens in isolation, so regardless of where we reside or work, we’re impacted in various ways by the global turmoil and the continued systemic oppression happening to and around us.
When I served as a DEI director, I once experienced a school year ending with unresolved issues. There was a lack of closure to the school year, hurt feelings that weren’t addressed, and many stressed relationships. Nothing about that summer felt good. Looking back, I wish I had paused to create some space for a personal reset. That would have been within my sphere of control amidst a largely unwieldy time.
When speaking with peers, clients, and leaders across the country, I’m reminded of that year. Many folks are heading into summer feeling isolated, weighed down, and disrespected. Folks have been pushed out, silenced, and feel disconnected from themselves and others. If there was ever a time for us to create space in our lives to reconnect our minds, bodies, and spirits, it’s now.
In collaboration with my colleague Lori Cohen—someone deeply passionate about her work but equally protective of her time to play, create, and rest—we developed a Three-Week System Reset incorporating mindfulness, “tea breaks,” gratitude practices, and body scans/somatic work. This reset will allow people to center well-being, build new habits, and determine the practices that will best serve them at any time of year.
