6 Strategies to Have a Strong End to this Season
On Sunday, I had the pleasure of speaking with scholars from the ConnectDMV program about ways to have a solid end to the school year. As I wrapped up sharing with the scholars, I realized how many of my clients and peers may also need some of these reminders.
A professional season's end can bring mixed feelings of excitement, overwhelm, anticipation, and relief.
Ending professional seasons with focused action and nurturing connections became more manageable when I followed these six strategies.
Listen to your body and intuition:
Pause and pay attention to your body's messages. How can you be responsive in short and long blocks of time (5 min, 15 min, 30 min)? Be selective about where you go and who you spend your time with. Honor your intuition over feelings of missing out.
Set a goal to work towards:
Set small goals each day instead of focusing on your entire to-do list. What 2-3 things do you want to accomplish today? Reflect on what might get in the way of those goals. Prevent potential barriers by considering who or what could support you in navigating those barriers.
Prioritize your tasks:
What task is essential and time-sensitive? Complete that task first. What task is important but not urgent? Begin that task, and what you don't complete becomes a priority tomorrow. Complete short tasks that you enjoy in between longer tasks for a boost of motivation and joy.
Celebrate your small wins:
After accomplishing a task, set a timer and do something that brings you joy or calm. Take a walk, nap, read, doodle, or play with a pet. At the end of each day, reflect on what you accomplished. Complete the phrase, "I'm proud of myself today because..."
Utilize your resources:
Ask for assistance if a task is overwhelming or more than anticipated. If you feel stuck on a project and need additional guidance, ask for help. Now is not the time to try to do everything on your own.
Stay connected:
Create space to connect with your trusted network and community. Check-in to see how each other is doing. Celebrate your wins, support each other through challenges, and affirm each other for the genius and creativity you bring to all you do. Share your gratitude and appreciation for colleagues moving on after this season.
